Our Ministry in Kenya
About 47 percent of the Kenyan population lives below the poverty line; Kenya is also the country with the fifth highest number of people living with HIV/AIDS. These statistics emphasize the importance of an education as a means to a brighter future and as a conduit for dispelling the myths about HIV/AIDS. Figures reveal that the basic needs of orphaned Kenyan children for food, clothing, adequate housing, healthcare, and education are not being met. Over one million children are currently out of school in Kenya. Some children are orphans due to HIV/AIDS. Alternatively, the parents of other children are unable to pay required school fees due to poverty.
In Kenya, CARITAS For Children’s ministry is supported by the local Catholic Church, whose institutions work diligently to ensure that more Ugandan, Kenyan, and Tanzanian children receive a strong education, a place to live, clean water to drink, food to eat, and someone to take care of them and love them. The Department of Catholic Education runs schools and hospitals throughout Kenya and have acquired a reputation for providing high quality education and medical care to communities in need. CARITAS For Children is privileged to work with the local Catholic institutions, including schools, parishes, hospitals and others, who are widely loved and respected, in providing resources for the impoverished people of in this region.
